Graduates land jobs at world leading visual effects company

“I'm really proud to see Richard, AJ and Carmen taking this exciting next step in their careers. They have worked extremely hard over the past three years and this is their reward.”

Colin Mottram, Course Leader for Media (Film) Production

Three recent Staffordshire University graduates have made their big break into the film industry by securing roles with a world leading visual effects company.

Richard Binnington, AJ Mulley and Carmen Metcalf, all from the BA(Hons) Media(Film) Production Course, have been appointed as production runners with Double Negative, a company which has worked on blockbuster films such as Dunkirk, Baby Driver and Wonder Woman.

Harriet Edge-Partington, Recruiter for Double Negative said "We have recruited a number of Staffordshire University graduates over the past seven years and they have a great attitude towards running, are extremely professional and hard working.”

“The graduates will be starting as production runners which will enable them to learn the Dneg ropes and meet lots of influential people within the company.”

Graduate Richard Binnington said “During the final year we studied the Design Futures Module, which encourages us to develop our professional network and produce a range of promotional materials to use to help us gain employment. The module requires you to apply for jobs, but I never thought that it would lead to securing employment immediately after graduation”

Course Leader Colin Mottram said: “I'm really proud to see Richard, AJ and Carmen taking this exciting next step in their careers. They have worked extremely hard over the past three years and this is their reward.”

“We have a number of our alumni working in the London and Vancouver office for Double Negative as production coordinators and line producers for the Film and TV production departments.

“We are extremely proud to see their careers developing and see their names in the credits on the big screen. It's really gratifying to see them all utilising the production skills that they developed on the course.”

Double Negative are currently working on upcoming films such as Avengers: Infinity War, M:I 6 Mission Impossible and Bladerunner 2049.

• Graduates from Staffordshire University are among the most employable in the UK, it has been confirmed. The Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey (DLHE) shows that 97.5 per cent of students who graduated from Staffordshire University last summer are employed or in further study.
