Hollywood praise for Staffordshire Graduate

“My first steps into filmmaking were from using Photoshop and it spiralled from there. I’ve learnt so much during my time at Staffordshire University which has helped me with many projects which I have completed outside of the course as well as on it.”

A graduate filmmaker who stepped on the moon to receive praise from a Hollywood director is determined up his success with the launch of his own company.

Film Production and Technology graduate Miren Patel was praised by Resident Evil director Paul WS Anderson who described Miren’s short film ‘The Shot’ as “genuinely funny and charming” after he came runner-up in a national competition run by Jessops.

Paul said of Miren’s entry: “I can’t believe how much money is spent on visual effects and how much I have paid to visual effect houses around the world, all of you take note – Miren did a lot better than all of you do!”

Miren, 20, from Margate, who graduated with a first-class degree from Staffordshire University, was inspired by the director’s comments and decided to launch his own production company Aizen Digital in a bid to fulfil his ambition of directing his own feature films.

Miren said: “It was absolutely amazing to hear those words coming from such a prominent director, they mean so much than the award and I will take them with me wherever I go.”

The film - The Shot – was filmed and edited in a week with the help of fellow Staffordshire University film graduate Saeid Samimi, The Shot – A Magical Lens, transports the viewer to locations varying from the Taj Mahal in India to the surface of the moon.

“My first steps into filmmaking were from using Photoshop and it spiralled from there. I’ve learnt so much during my time at Staffordshire University which has helped me with many projects which I have completed outside of the course as well as on it.”

Miren is now working on the development of a comedy series alongside the launch of his production company Aizen Digital.
