Outstanding village school celebrates new academy status

“We have already established very strong links with other academies in the Trust, and believe that by working together we can improve education and opportunities for all young people in our care.”

Tracy Ward, Headteacher

St Edward's CE Academy is the latest school in the county to join Staffordshire University Academies Trust (SUAT).

Pupils at the Cheddleton school celebrated their new status as an Academy with a balloon launch and the burial of a time capsule, which will by dug up in 2055.

Headteacher Tracy Ward said: “Our pupils are hard working, actively involved and supportive of one another in a way which helps us to achieve. St Edward's is well known for its high academic standards and the quality of relationships between the staff and pupils are a source of great pride.”

“We have already established very strong links with other academies in the Trust, and believe that by working together we can improve education and opportunities for all young people in our care.”

“We're also encouraged by the Trust's plans to work with Staffordshire University towards developing international links.”

Staffordshire University Academies Trust (SUAT) provides both educational and non-educational support to Academies in the partnership. The Trust is linked to Education provision at Staffordshire University, which has an outstanding rating for its teacher training. The Trust also has a team of Education Improvement Partners, which support all Academies to improve standards.

Keith Hollins, Chief Executive of the Trust, added: “Our commitment is to raising standards. In each of our academies we are committed to year on year improvements in the outcomes for our young people.”

“The governors of St Edward's believe that by being part of our growing family of Academy schools, they are better able to develop a joint response to financial and political pressures at the same time as improving education for children in their catchment.”

“St Edward's has been rated as outstanding in their last three inspections and examination results have been consistently above the local and national averages for the last ten years which is a tribute to the hard work of staff, pupils and parents and we are delighted to have them join us.”
