“In the past ten years or so since I first met him, I have found Harry to be a conscientious, reliable, trustworthy, highly creative and highly motivated individual and I had no reservation in recommending him."

A Staffordshire University graduate was shortlisted from hundreds of international alumni for a global award.

Haisu Liu (Harry), who studied both BA (Hons) Business Management and an MSc E Commerce during his time at the University, was named as one of three finalists in the Professional Achievement category at the British Council Education UK Alumni Awards China 2016.

The award recognises alumni who studied at UK universities and have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership and achievements in their professional industry.

During his time in Staffordshire, Harry became Vice-president of the University's Chinese Society and undertook a placement and with Staffordshire County Council. In 2012 Harry took on the role of the First President of the Chinese Alumni Association, continuing his excellent work with the University through its growing alumni network.

Since returning to China, Harry has become Assistant Principal of Shenzhen Mingde Experimental School, China’s first ‘free school’, and is also Head of the English Department and International Office.

Harry said: “I'm really grateful to Staffordshire University for supporting me to become one of the three finalists. They responded to the British Council immediately to provide an outstanding reference to support my candidacy.”

The finalists were selected from a global pool of more than 800 applicants, many of whom were nominated by their host UK universities, following in-depth interviews with a judging panel.

Dr Lee Zhuang, International Partnerships Manager at Staffordshire University, accompanied Harry to the awards ceremony hosted by the British Council in China last month.

He commented, “In the past ten years or so since I first met him, I have found Harry to be a conscientious, reliable, trustworthy, highly creative and highly motivated individual and I had no reservation in recommending him.”

“The University is committed to maintaining relationships with Staffs alumni across the world and we are delighted with Harry’s success. This is first time that the University has secured a finalist at the awards so it’s a great achievement.”
