Students invited to get All Stoked Up about CareersFest

"We're delighted to be joined by some top employers and individuals who bring with them a wealth of knowledge, experience and opportunities."

Peter Dunleavy, Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Staffordshire University is getting All Stoked Up about careers during a two week programme of events designed to get students planning for life after graduation.

Beginning on November 7 and continuing until November 18, the Stoke-on-Trent campus will be buzzing with jobs and careers fairs, seminars and workshops providing students with opportunities to network with employers and find out about job vacancies, work experience and placement opportunities.

CareersFest 2016 is being sponsored by Synectics Solutions, a Newcastle based data software company founded by Staffordshire University graduate Kevin Shanahan. Other organisations who have confirmed their involvement include Amazon, NHS, Siemens, Ticketmaster, UPS, and Codeweavers.

Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor Peter Dunleavy said: “We have a packed programme of events over the fortnight and we want all our students to make the most of the practical help and advice on offer ranging from presentation and communication skills to the importance of networking.

“We're delighted to be joined by some top employers and individuals who bring with them a wealth of knowledge, experience and opportunities. Their involvement in our activity will ultimately benefit the region as our students and graduates move on to become the leaders and professionals of the future.”

CareersFest 2016 is also an umbrella for the Digitech student conference taking place on November 8, and Global Entrepreneurship Week which is a week of events designed to encourage students and graduates to learn more about enterprise and becoming their own boss!

Kevin Shanahan, Founder & Chairman of Synectics Solutions said: “We are delighted to be the main sponsors of CareersFest 2016. I was among the first graduates from Staffordshire University’s Computing School and our partnership with the University spans over two decades, with Synectics taking multiple Student placements and graduates every year across the company. We are delighted that in that time, several have progressed to Heads of Department.”

The CareersFest programme is developed by the University Careers Network. As part of the activity students are invited to take place in is a CV Competition with lots of prizes and opportunity to win £100 shopping voucher.
