"We have made huge strides as an institution over the past two years and this nomination highlights the hard work and dedication of staff throughout the University."

Professor Martin Jones, Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Staffordshire University has been shortlisted for Outstanding Leadership and Management Team at The Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (Thelmas).

The nomination reflects Staffordshire University's success under the direction of Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Liz Barnes and a new senior management team.

Following a new strategic plan and academic structure, the University has seen immediate positive results, securing a Silver Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework and achieving 97.5% graduate employability as measured by the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey (DLHE).

More recently, Staffordshire University won 'Most Improved Student Experience' at the Times Higher Education Awards 2017 and received one of the largest ever Catalyst awards from HEFCE for the creation of a £17m Apprenticeship Hub that will deliver 6,500 new apprenticeships over the next decade.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Jones explained: “Our vision puts students at the heart of what we do through innovative teaching and learning, investment in talented people, our position as a values-based organisation, and a regional anchor institutional with international reach.

“We are thrilled to be shortlisted for this important award. We have made huge strides as an institution over the past two years and this nomination highlights the hard work and dedication of staff throughout the University.”

Now in their tenth year, the Thelmas celebrate the best examples of innovation, teamwork and enterprise at higher education institutions across the UK.

Winners will be announced at a gala ceremony taking place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday 21 June 2018.

THE editor John Gill said: "The Thelmas are unique in shining a deserved spotlight on often unsung heroes from across the professional services and administration of our world-leading universities, and it's an honour for Times Higher Education to organise an event celebrating their achievements.”
