The University realises that the military is not a 9-5 organisation. They’ve been flexible when I’ve been deployed and have allowed me to hold off on my studies and pick up where I left off.
A member of the Royal Air Force police says studying with Staffordshire University has majorly stepped up his skills to help tackle cyber-crime.
Sean Reece works with the Special Investigations and Intelligence branch of the RAF police and has completed a BSc (Hons) Intelligence and Security, joining hundreds of graduating students at Trentham Estate to collect his award.
“The University realises that the military is not a 9-5 organisation. They’ve been flexible when I’ve been deployed and have allowed me to hold off on my studies and pick up where I left off.” explained Sean.
Staffordshire University has a long standing partnership with the Armed Forces, developing and delivering programmes not only on campus but worldwide via distance learning, blended or at hub stations on individual Units.
The Intelligence and Security course covers digital forensics to ethical hacking and aims to equip students with skills that can then be applied in their daily work.
“It’s a fast paced environment in this field. We have cyber protection teams in the Royal Air Force so I can bring back my experience from the course and incorporate what I’ve learned into our day-to-day activities.”
Sean believes the course has benefited him both personally and professionally, and will make him more attractive to future employees.
“The Air Force now has a higher calibre employee – I’ve learned things that I would never have learned if I hadn’t taken the course.
“I have a professional qualification which without the help and support of the University, I could never have hoped to achieve.”
I’ve done some challenging things in my life and this course is up there with them but I’ve really enjoyed it.
Captain Andrew Flanagan, who is with the Royal Corps of Signals also took the course.
“I’ve done some challenging things in my life and this course is up there with them but I’ve really enjoyed it.”
“This is an area that always needs people to be at the cutting edge of what’s going on and I will take away an increased knowledge and understanding of my work.”
