A conference hosted by the Centre for Education Psychology Research, Staffordshire University
Dates: Friday 9th - Sunday 11th November 2007
Location: Moat House Hotel, Stoke-on-Trent
Submission deadline 30th July 2007
The conference committee welcomes submissions covering all aspects of psychological enquiry relating to education and particularly those relating to the main focus of the conference - Literacies. This is intended to include not just reading and writing, but also broader forms of literacy, including visual, mathematical, musical and emotional literacy. Empirical, theoretical and review material, as well as work in progress are all encouraged.
Submissions may be in the following formats, and should be submitted online using the abstract submission form. Please read the following before submitting the form.
Individual Papers: Papers are allocated to timed slots of 20 minutes, allowing a further 5 to 10 minutes for open discussion. Abstracts should be up to 250 words in length plus the title, and should be written in the past or present tense. Abstracts of accepted papers will be published in booklet form for the benefit of attendees at the conference at which the material is presented. A full set of abstracts is published in The Psychologist.
Symposia: A symposium is a set of posters or papers linked by a common theme. A symposium should have: a convenor who organises the symposium submission and acts as the responsible link person with the Conference Committee; a named chair; and (optionally) a named discussant. The same person can fulfil these roles.
Separate abstracts should be submitted for each paper or poster in the symposium, indicating the title of the symposium towards which they are contributing. Abstracts should be up to 250 words in length plus the title, and should be written in the past or present tense. Abstracts of accepted papers will be published in booklet form for the benefit of attendees at the conference at which the material is presented. A full set of abstracts is published in The Psychologist. An additional abstract should be submitted summarising the symposium. This should be up to 250 words, and describe the theme and objectives of the symposium, and the relevance of the individual contributions within the symposium.
Posters: Your poster will be allocated to a scheduled poster session. These sessions potentially provide a more intimate forum for discussion than the standard oral presentation. Abstracts should be up to 250 words in length plus the title, and should be written in the past or present tense. Abstracts of accepted papers will be published in booklet form for the benefit of attendees at the conference at which the material is presented. A full set of abstracts is published in The Psychologist.
Posters displayed should be no larger than 3ft by 4ft in size and should be in a font for text which is easy to read - no less than 18pt. The information on your research is the most important aspect of the poster; only use visual materials which aid the reader. If you intend to make handouts of more detailed materials available, please indicate this on the poster. The poster abstract should be up to 250 words, and describe the theme and objectives of the poster.
Each submission will be reviewed by at least two members of the Conference Committee, according to established criteria and standards. From time to time referees may feel that a particular submission lends itself to a different format to that which is proposed and in these cases authors will be invited to consider an alternative format. In the case of symposia, the refereeing procedure will include the package as a whole and the scientific merit and importance of any individual contributions.
Authors will be notified by email of the Committee's decision. Successful contributors will be advised of the time and date of their presentation. With regard to symposia, it is the responsibility of the convenor to keep presenters informed.
All presenters are expected to register and pay in advance at the member rate. Details of the registration fees and an on-line registration form can be found here. Early registration is encouraged.
