Derrick studied Drama at Liverpool Polytechnic and University of Essex. He is the writer of Black Sheep (Temba Theatre Company), Different Decks (Splash Theatre Company, Hull) and Hello Lunch (rehearsed reading, Soho Theatre Company) and has worked as a script-reader for Bristol Express Theatre Company and the Mobil Playwriting competition at the Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre.

He is currently completing a PhD on Black British Theatre, on which subject he has published articles in two edited collections, Popular Theatres? (Liverpool John
Moores University Press) and Moving Target: Theatre Translation and Cultural Relocation (St Jerome Publishing). His other research interests include contemporary British Theatre and sexuality and performance.

Derrick is the Admissions Tutor and Dramaturg for the Drama, Performance and Theatre Arts course.
