Community Theatre

This half-award can combine with the existing 'Theatre Studies' or other Faculty joints.

It aims to;

  • Provide students with contemporary practical knowledge of community theatre in the areas of workshop leading; the community play; children's theatre (acting, directing and writing); documentary and Forum Theatre as well as Applied Theatre.

  • Provide an academic and critical for the study and application of Community Theatre in the UK and Worldwide.

  • Encourage creative, innovative and professional approaches to working within Community Settings in response to the needs of the industry.

  • Encourage individual styles of practice to provide students with not only the outcomes of a generic arts degree, but the necessary skills needed if they wished to work within the field of Community and Applied Drama, or a grounding for those wishing to pursue teaching training.

Contemporary Performance

This half-award can combine with the existing 'Theatre Studies' or other Faculty joints.

It aims to;

  • provide students with knowledge and understanding of key developments in twentieth and twenty-first century performance practice.

  • promote the appreciation of theatre and performance as multi-disciplinary art forms.

  • encourage a critical and creative understanding of the inter-relationship between theory and performance.

  • develop transferable key skills in communication (oral and written) information technology (including performance technologies) working with others, application of number and problem solving.
