Charlie Marlow – Radio Show Presenter
BA(Hons) Music Journalism and Broadcasting (2009)
Profile update: 17-05-10
Had a crazy couple of months! You won't believe me if I told you but..........my ratings on the evening show have almost doubled- they've gone mad. As well as continuing with the evening show at Silk FM I am now working full time at Dee 106.3 in Chester- it is a huge station and has amazing listeners.
I've been there for a month now and work from 7am with the breakfast presenter on air and then go out and about into Chester being the face of the station and linking back to the studio, this runs throughout breakfast and mid morning- it is so much fun! They send me all over the show and I get involved in all the local events, we've had a great response- I'm having flying lessons, riding lessons and even going to Disney Land- all expenses paid.
As well as that I head up the promotions team and help out the sales team- lots of interviews and editing! Its keeping me good!

Having graduated from Staffordshire University I interviewed successfully to become a holiday entertainment rep for Club Cantabrica Holidays on the Costa Brava in Spain, this had always been a dream of mine; to travel and make others smile. I love performing and wanted to do something for myself before finally settling down.
Working in a foreign country allowed me to engage and express myself and to meet new people from all walks of life and cultures. Although I was away for 6 months I never lost contact with radio stations that I had had previous links with during my time at university. I must have sent my CV to over 50 stations both in the UK and abroad and never gave up.
When I returned home in November, I already had two interviews lined up for the week of my return. You just have to be persistent, find the names of the top dogs and send personal emails, not general ones.
I am now the happiest that I have ever been and am currently the core evening presenter on Cheshire’s Silk 106.9 which is where I did my work experience in the 2nd year of my Music Journalism degree. I present my show live on air Monday to Thursday 7pm-10pm and work during the day providing live links into the day time shows from events that are taking place in the Silk area.
I have also been freelancing for the Real Radio ground patrol team and have been offered holiday cover presenting at Real Radio – Manchester.
My lifetime ambition has always been to become a radio presenter. I never want to get complacent in my job, I enjoy working hard and will never take anything for granted.
I hope that I can progress in my career and continue to learn and enjoy myself.
I was always encouraged to be myself by my tutors and picked up many tricks of the trade, they were good friends as well as teachers and having experience themselves and in the industry knew how to push us in the right direction, we were never spoon fed but encouraged to do things on our own with them as a safety net.
