Sam Schofield with Frank Bruno

Within four days of handing in my dissertation I was working in Tamworth as a news reporter and feature writer for the Cannock and Rugeley Mercury newspapers. I cover anything and everything going on in the Chase district. From the exciting, such as drugs busts and celebrity events, to the tedious, such as school fancy dress days and road works.

Eventually I hope to work for a national newspaper as a freelance or feature writer. Composing investigative, feature-length stories would be the ideal. I am a writer first and foremost. All my future dreams, goals, targets and aspirations revolve around that love of arranging words on a page.

The best thing about my course was the freedom of choice. There are modules for almost any aspect of journalism you care to consider, and this choice helped me find a job I enjoy immensely. As for preparation, the work experience module is invaluable.
