SIX hundred Staffordshire BT workers face an uncertain future after the company announced 15,000 new job losses.

The majority of their Staffordshire workers are based at the company’s Hanley site, with other offices in Stafford, Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Stone.

A spokeswoman would not confirm how many would be affected in the region but said all cuts would be voluntary.

The telecoms firm is shedding 10 per cent of its UK workforce.

BT has already cut 15,000 jobs over the past year, but after making a loss of £134 million, a further round of cuts have been announced.

The new cutbacks are likely to be agency workers and contract staff as the firm wants to bring more functions in-house and reduce reliance on outsourced activities.
