By Sarah Wells: Singer Robbie Williams’ live radio proposal to his girlfriend Ayda Field was a joke, his spokesman has said.

The Stoke-born singer was being interviewed on 2DayFM’s Kyle and Jackie O show when he revealed that long term girlfriend Ayda Field was also in the studio with him.

Presenter Jackie O commented that Sydney had a reputation for celebrity proposals before asking Williams if he “had anything to share”.

The Brit-pop singer then turned to Field and asked, “Ayda Field, I love you so much…will you marry me?”

She replied, “Yes I’ll marry you.”

The on-air proposal was sealed with Jackie O providing her ring for Williams to slide onto Fields’ finger.

The couple met after friends set them up on a blind date and Robbie revealed earlier in the interview that he didn’t initially like Fields when they began dating saying that he thought she was “mental”.
