Stoke legend’s boots up for auction

A pair of boots owned by Stanley Matthews
By Gary Kirk: One fan of Stoke City FC legend Sir Stanley Matthews could soon be the proud owner of a pair of the so-called “wizard of dribble”‘s boots.
Matthews played for the local club from 1932 until 1947 and again from 1961 to 1965. He gave the boots he wore playing for Blackpool in the 1953 FA Cup final against Bolton Wanderers to regular fan Wilf Coomer after the match. The pair had become friendly, with Coomer being invited in to the team dressing room pre-match, and even staying in the team hotel.
They’ve recently been discovered and will go under the hammer at auctioneers Bonham’s in Cheshire on February 24th. It’s estimated they could go for as much as £8,000.
You can view more information on the other items included in the lot and auction at the Bonham’s website here.
