Tough weekend of football for Staffordshire sides
By Joe Bennett: All three Staffordshire league sides are in action this weekend as Stoke City host Everton, while Port Vale and Burton Albion travel to newly promoted Bournemouth and Rochdale.
Tony Pulis’ side will be looking to bounce back after last weekend’s humilating 7-0 defeat at the hands of Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea.
If Stoke are to improve they will have to do it without stopper Thomas Sorensen. The Danish goalkeeper dislocated his elbow following a clash with Solomon Kalou and now faces a race to fit in time for the World Cup in the summer.
Port Vale will be looking consolidate their play-off place as they travel to recently promoted Bournemouth.
Vale skipper Tommy Fraser will be pushing for a recall to the side after his recent omission from the first team following a run of poor form.
Mickey Adams has one major injury doubt ahead of the game with experienced defender Gareth Owen struggling to be fit with a back and hip injury.
Paul Peschisolido will be hoping Burton Albion can improve on their recent poor form as they make the trip North to face Rochdale.
Burton have failed to win any of their last seven games in League Two, but Peschisolido will be boosted by news that in-form striker Greg Pearson has signed a new contract this week.
Despite their season tailing off, victory in their last two games will see them secure a top ten finish in their debut season in the Football League.
