By Tom Niblett & Rebecca Clark: Labour’s Paul Farrelly has retained his Newcastle-under-Lyme seat – but saw his majority slashed by 6,000 votes.
Mr Farrelly, who will represent Newcastle-under-Lyme for a third term, polled 16,939 votes, while his nearest rival, Conservative Robert Jenrick polled 14,831.
It means Mr Farrelly’s majority fell from 8,108 to 2,108.
Nigel Jones, of the Liberal Democrats, gained 8,466 votes, while UKIP’s David Nixon polled 3,491.
Mr Farrelly thanked his supporters and urged his party to seek an alliance with the Liberal Democrats.
He spoke exclusively to StaffsLive about how he intends to spend his parliamentary time.
