Motorcyclist killed in A34 Brocton crash named

Tributes and flowers for Geoffry Kevin Jones Pic: James Montgomery
By James Montgomery: A motorcyclist who died in a crash on the A34 Brocton crossroads near Cannock Chase on Wednesday (May 5) has been named as Geoffrey Kevin Jones.
The family of the 55-year-old, from Lichen Close in Huntington, Cannock, say they have lost a “loving son, father and brother”.
A statement from the family said: “Throughout his life he gained the respect of a great many people through work and play.
“His untimely death will leave a big hole in all of our hearts; he will be deeply missed, never forgotten.”
A Facebook group has been set up to raise awareness of traffic dangers at the crossroads.
Make Brocton Crossroads Safer has been created by Kate Young of Stafford, who lives a mile away.
She told StaffsLive: “When Mr Jones was killed the other morning, I just felt so sad for his family – as chances are, if there had been a roundabout or traffic lights, he would not have had an accident.
“I didn’t know him or his family, but his death has made me want to try to get something done.
“I use Brocton crossroads on a daily basis and have first hand experience of how dangerous a junction it is.”
Kate has asked people to sign an online petition to put some kind of safety measures in place at the crossroads.
Tributes and flowers have been placed at the crossroads, with one anonymous card from ‘a fellow biker’ simply reading: “It was a very sad day. And even though I didn’t know you I still feel that I lost a friend.”
A 39-year-old man from Stafford was arrested at the scene of the crash. He has been bailed, pending further enquiries.
