Stoke duo ready for Darts Premier League clash
By Joe Bennett: Stoke rivals Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor are set to go head-to-head as they battle for a place in the final stages of the Darts Premier League.
Lewis needs a win tonight (May 13) to keep alive any hopes of gaining a play-off place.
If he beats Taylor in Nottingham it would be the first time he has achieved the feat on live television. But if he loses and Van Barneveld wins his match-up, Lewis could finish in a disappointing seventh place.
The top four players in the competition will face each other at Wembley Arena on May 23, with the winner picking up £125,000.
Taylor has already secured a semi-final place and he goes into the final round of matches unbeaten, having won all 13 match-ups so far.
Lewis is one of five players chasing a top four finish and he needs to win his tie and hope both James Wade and Ronnie Baxter lose.
Despite the Stoke connection, Taylor revealed to Sky Sports he isn’t in a charitable mood ahead of the match.
He said: “Adrian always gets up for matches against me and it could be crucial for him, but I won’t be doing him any favours.”
