Crewe Alexandra slump to fourth straight loss at Bury

By Tom Donlan: Crewe Alexandra slumped to their fourth defeat in a row at promotion-hunting Bury.

After their 3-0 home loss to Shrewsbury at the weekend, manager Dario Gradi was forced into changing the team.
Carl Martin, James Bailey and Adam Legzdins were all ruled out with injuries so Harry Worley, Luke Murphy and Daniel Platt came in.
Bury boss Alan Knill was forced into a change in goal as Wayne Brown sat out his one-game suspension, replaced by Cameron Belford. Andy Morrell and Michael Jones were also recalled.
Former Crewe defender …

Burton Albion and Crewe Alexandra face away trips

By Kieran Spratt: Crewe Alexandra travel to Bury tonight with little to play for as a mediocre mid-table finish looks certain.
Bury still have hopes of reaching the play-offs and three points tonight could take them as high as fourth.
Crewe were booed off the field following their 3-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.
Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke, manager Dario Gradi said: “The booing is something that I can’t do anything about, but to be fair to our supporters, our home results have been very disappointing.
“They’ve had very little to …

Crewe Alexandra players must wait for new contract talks

By Tom Donlan: Crewe Alexandra boss Dario Gradi has admitted he won’t discuss new contracts with any of his players until the end of the season.
With several players out of contract in the summer at Gresty Road, pressure has been mounting on the Alex boss to tie down members of his squad.
But a failure to bounce straight back into League One at the first time of asking will mean Gradi has a smaller budget to work with next season – and that could spell the end of some Crewe careers.
Gradi …

Crewe Alexandra 4-2 Grimsby Town: Match Report

By Nick Humphreys: Crewe Alexandra plundered four goals past Grimsby Town for the second time this season in a convincing win at Gresty Road.
Strikes from Byron Moore, Joel Grant, Ashley Westwood and Clayton Donaldson were enough to see off the visitors. Jean Louis Akpa Akpro and Dean Sinclair netted in response but it was not enough.
Crewe threatened early with Grimsby stopper Nick Colgan making a series of fine saves.
On the break the visitors, whose 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury at the weekend was their first in 25 games, were a threat …

Crewe Alexandra 0 Chesterfield 1

By Steve Garland: Crewe Alexandra’s faint hopes of a play-off spot were dealt a blow as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of a resurgent Chesterfield side at Gresty Road.
A Drew Talbot goal just before the half hour mark was enough for the Spireites to give them their sixth consecutive victory; a run that has pushed them just one point off an automatic promotion spot in League Two.
For the Railwaymen, the defeat puts an end to an upturn in form of two wins on the bounce and Dario …

Crewe Alexandra on course in Cheshire Premier Cup

By Matt Wagg: Crewe Alexandra are on course to retain the Cheshire Premier Cup after a 5-2 win at Stockport last night.
Goals from Jon Stephens, AJ Leitch-Smith, Chris Clements and two from Clayton Donaldson secured a win for the visiting side.
Stephens opened the scoring for Crewe on 17 minutes.
But after a bright start, the Alex lost concentration and Stockport scored two well-deserved goals inside three minutes to take a 2-1 lead.
Clayton Donaldson put the away side back on level terms with a brilliantly taken goal after the half hour mark.
Second …

Crewe Alex bidding for derby success against Burton

By Daniel Milligan: Crewe Alexandra make the short trip to Burton Albion on Friday looking to halt the Brewers five-game unbeaten run.

Dario Gradi’s men, 15th in League Two, lost 2-0 on Saturday to league leaders Rochdale but will be looking to make up the eight-point gap from their Derbyshire rivals.

Alex will be without 16 goal top scorer Calvin Zola, who suffered a hamstring injury in Saturdays match at Rochdale.

Burton beat a struggling Cheltenham side 1-0 in their previous fixture, courtesy of an early 25-yard strike from Shaun …

Crewe boss Dario Gradi delighted by super-sub Miller

By Michael Marsh: Crewe boss Dario Gradi was full of praise for substitute Shaun Miller as his injury time goal snatched a point against Torquay United at Gresty Road.
Miller replaced Clayton Donaldson in attack midway through the second-half and the striker nipped in for his first goal since October to earn his side a 1-1 draw.
And Gradi firmly believes that Miller’s timely contribution was well deserved.
He said: “I am pleased for him [Shaun] and the players because they didn’t deserve to lose tonight.
“I was delighted that Shaun got in …

Devastated Dean Ashton offered Crewe Alex lifeline

By Chris Quinn, George Woodward and Monie Kaur: Crewe Alexandra boss Dario Gradi has opened the door for Dean Ashton to return to Gresty Road – in a coaching capacity.
Former Alex striker Ashton announced his retirement today aged just 26 after a long-standing ankle problem.
Gradi admits he is unsure as to Ashton’s next project, but says he would be welcome to return to the ground where he started his career.
“I’m sure Dean won’t have to worry too much financially,” Gradi told the club’s official website.
“It will be interesting to see …

By Daniel Milligan: Stoke City boss Tony Pulis remained positive despite seeing his side lose 2-0 to Arsenal.
Russian international Andrey Arshavin’s strike and Aaron Ramsey’s edge of the box effort both beat Stoke’s stopper Thomas Sorensen.
Pulis told the club’s website: “This was a big improvement on our visit to the Emirates last season.
“We had our best period of play just before the second goal and we felt they would get uptight near the end of the game.”
In Arsenal’s 100th appearance at the Emirates, the Potters were unable to grasp a …
