By James Montgomery: Liberal Democrats in Lichfield have criticised plans for a new high-speed train line through the town.
The new line would cut through the eastern side of the town.
But Liberal Democrat councillors are concerned, saying it’s “almost as if someone has got a ruler and drawn a straight line.”
Cllr Ian Jackson believes the best option would be for ’tilting’ high-speed train to run on curved tracks, avoiding built-up areas.
He also believes there should be a new station built where the line would potentially cross the A5.

Around 70 engines across the county have received the new equipment and the terminals will aid locating fire hydrants, help mapping fires and provide risk assessment information – meaning crews will no longer need to rely on hard paper copies of the information they need.
The new equipment is the first stage of a resilience programme aimed at moving the fire service forward.
