Ember Lounge triumph in friendly between Staffordshire University venues

Leg wax raises £225 for Staffordshire hockey team

The event was organised to raise money for two new goalkeeper kits.

Staffordshire University student on ABH charge

By Leanne Kirtley: A Staffordshire University student has appeared in court charged with ABH after a fancy dress party incident.
Scott Finlay Allen, 19, of Baker Street, Northampton, appeared at Fenton Magistrates after the incident involving a fellow student at the LRV on Leek Road on January 21 this year.
Allen and the other student were attending a fancy dress event when a sheep costume caught fire.
The victim suffered 4% burns to his neck, stomach, hands and buttocks.
Allen, who was given unconditional bail, will reappear at magistrates on June 22, where it’s …

New band The Wanted to perform at Stoke-on-Trent’s LRV

By Holly Penkethman: Staffordshire University hosts an up and coming boy band at the LRV on Friday April 23.
The Wanted, a five-piece pop band, will be performing live at Super Friday.
The band, made up of Jay, Nathan, Siva, Tom and Max, have travelled all over Europe over the last year.
They have linked up with some of the biggest names in pop, such as songwriter and producer Guy Chambers who has also worked with the likes of Robbie Williams and James Blunt.

Ruby Owen one step closer to life-saving operation

The parents of Ruby Owen, a two-year-old girl from Kidsgrove suffering from a life-threatening tumour are now 62% closer to raising the £250,000 needed for the treatment that is currently only available in the US.
So far, £156,207.21 has been raised thanks in large part to a website launched by Just Giving, which allows people who have been affected by Ruby’s story to make donations to raise the funds for the operation.

Ryan Duggins wins Staffs’ Got Talent 2010

By Laurence Mozafari: Thirteen hopeful acts clashed at the annual Staffs’ Got Talent competition at the LRV, with singer Ryan Duggins claiming the top spot with his rendition of Cry Me A River by Michael Buble.
The third year Creative Writing and Journalism student received a great reception from the judges and secured himself a 15 minute slot at this year’s Summer Ball.
The runners up included rapper Michael Hopkin in second place and solo singer Nelena Paparisva in third.

Staffs’ Got Talent competition launches at Leek Road Venue

The event, taking place at the Leek Road Venue on Thursday, will include acts such as singers, musicians, dancers, poets and comedians.

Final rehersals for Staffordshire University fashion show

By Kellie Hill and Liz Quinn: The final touches are being added in preparation for Staffordshire University’s fourth annual Diversity Fashion Show.
The event, which takes place next Tuesday (March 2), will showcase clothes from various cultural backgrounds, student designs and high street brands.  It will be topped off by a dance sequence from Staffordshire University’s dance society.
