Pensioner injured in Maybank chip pan blaze

Man dies in Newcastle-under-Lyme fire tragedy

By Ross Hawkes: A man has died in a fire at a flat in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The blaze happened at the property in High Street, Wolstanton, at around 8.40pm last night (November 12).

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save a man inside the flat.”

HMV plan Christmas store in Newcastle-under-Lyme

By Stefanie Keeling: Entertainment retailer HMV is planning to open a temporary store in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
If the idea goes ahead, the shop will open in mid-November for the Christmas period.
Shoppers and local residents have responded positively to the idea of the store opening on the High Street.

Neighbours shocked after woman sets herself on fire

By Alyssa Harrison: A woman has died after setting herself on fire at her home in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Emergency services were called to the house on St Andrews Drive shortly before 4pm yesterday afternoon.

The woman, named locally as Claire, was seen by neighbours pacing up and down Orme Road carrying a petrol can at around 1:30pm.
