Shareholders will have a chance to remove the current board in a ballot after a a request by supporters’ group North London Valiants.

The voting system works on a one share, one vote basis with 51 per cent needed to disband the current board.

Popstar and major shareholder Robbie Williams has already said he will not be voting.

In a recent statement Williams declared:  “I will be abstaining from any vote on the future ownership and running of the club.”

By Alex Simpson: Stoke-on- Trent stars Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow have agreed to perform alongside Robin Gibb at the Cauldwell Children charity’s Butterfly Benefit fundraising event in London later this year.

The exclusive black-tie event will take place on Thursday May 12 at the Banqueting House in Whitehall, London.

The charity aims to change the lives of disabled children in the UK by providing specialist equipment, treatment and therapy, as well as its annual Destination Dreams holiday and family support services.

Caudwell Children has provided more than £13 million-worth of support to thousands of children with over 350 different medical conditions.

Robbie Williams last year became an official ambassador for the Midlands-based children’s charity. He said; “I have known and admired John Caudwell for a long time, he’s a top man. I hugely respect his enthusiasm and commitment to the charity Caudwell Children.”

The star has agreed to perform for the 250 invited guests to the fundraiser ahead of Take That’s record-breaking Progress Tour, which starts two week later.

Trudi Beswick, chief executive of Caudwell Children, said: “We are honoured to have Robbie as an ambassador for the charity and delighted that we have this opportunity for him to perform for us alongside Gary Barlow and Robin Gibb.

“Of course it is going to be a great night of entertainment but the real reason we are all there is to raise much-needed funds to help some of the UK’s most at-risk children.

“Unfortunately our help is needed more than ever so we hope the money raised will help us reach even more children over the next year.”

The Butterfly Benefit aims to be an intimate event. The Butterfly Ball events in recent years have become renowned for their multimillion-pound fundraising auctions and for attracting some of the world’s best-selling artists, including Sir Elton John, Whitney Houston and Rod Stewart.

By Ben Bradley: Jonathan Wilkes is hoping this year’s Soccer Aid match will help raise £10 million for charity.

The Stoke-on-Trent actor is again involved in the event which raises cash for UNICEF.

And this year’s proceeds will be used to help families in Haiti rebuild their lives after the devastating earthquake.

Speaking to StaffsLive, Wilkes said: “We’re looking forward to raising money and the majority of what we have done with Soccer Aid is for Haiti.

“We’re going to go over and see what we have achieved after raising £6 million.

“As a celebrity, Soccer Aid allows you to live out a boyhood fantasy.

“You get to play against famous professionals and raise a shed load of money for charity at the same time for people for desperately need it. It’s a win- win situation.

“Fingers crossed it will raise a lot of money and hopefully get to the £10 million barrier, that would be amazing but we’ll see.”

Wilkes is famously known as the best friend of singer Robbie Williams, and the Potters pals dreamed up the idea of Soccer Aid between them.

Wilkes added: “We came up with the idea and put it forward to the television companies. We did it just before we went to the World Cup last time.

“As we’re going to the World Cup everyone is excited and I can’t wait, the summer can’t come quick enough for me.

“We’re doing it at Old Trafford three days before the World Cup game, so everyone will have World Cup fever.”

The game will pitch a team of celebrities against ex- professional footballers in what has been dubbed ’England v Rest of the World’.

Players who have featured in the past include celebrities like Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Theakston. Footballing legends such as Luis Figo and Diego Maradona have also starred.

It is hoped the sides will be announced soon and it’s believed star players such as World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane could make an appearance.

Wilkes has played in the previous two games and joked that he has had a positive effect on the England team: “I can’t believe I am not going to the World Cup.

“When you think about it I’ve played two games for England scored the winner and put in a man of the match performance.

“At the second game at Wembley I scored again. I have scored two in two, my record speaks for itself. I should be there!”

This year’s match is at Old Trafford on June 6 and tickets are on sale.

The star seemed overwhelmed when he was presented with the honour at London’s Earls Court. He was also nominated for Best Male but lost out to Dizzee Rascal.

Despite rumours of a Take That reunion, the band did not join Robbie on stage to perform their hit Everything Changes.

The list is expected to increase to a minimum of a 15 nominees, with those suggested including former world squash champion Angela Smith plus Keele and Stoke City philanthropist Neil Baldwin.

Ten famous faces have been already announced as the first nominees for the award.

The prize has been created as part of the city’s 100 year aniversary celebrations taking place throughout 2010.

Obvious candidates Robbie Williams and Stanley Matthews stand alongside less well known candidates Arnold Bennett and Millicent Duchess of Sutherland.

City Council Leader Ross Irving  said a nominee ”would need to be someone who has made a serious contribution to either the life of the city or the reputation of the city.”

Suggestions from the public are being taken until February 28 and can be submitted here.

The winner will be decided by a panel of local experts and announced on March 31.

It takes his Brits total to 15, making him the most celebrated artist in the history of the event.

The star, who has had 28 top ten singles and eight number one albums over a career spanning two decades, said it was a “absolutely fantastic” and “incredibly strange”.

Previous Outstanding Contribution Award winners include U2, Oasis, Paul McCartney and the Pet Shop Boys.

The ‘Citizen Of The Century’ shortlist consists of ten individuals who have been educated, worked or lived in Stoke from 1910-2010 and have made a significant contribution to their chosen field.

Among the candidates are famous faces from the city over the last 100 years.

Williams is the youngest nominee, aged 35.

Jack Ashley, an MP for Stoke-on-Trent South, and the UK’s first completely deaf MP, is also nominated along with Doug Brown, who twice served as Lord Mayor for the city.

Ross Irving, City Council Leader and judge of the competition, said: “We feel the award will be a lasting legacy to whoever is chosen, and will be remembered as one of the most important figures in the entire history of Stoke-on-Trent.”

The late Sir Stanley Matthews faces competition from Duchess Millicent, an activist for social reform, while Reginald Mitchell, designer of the spitfire is nominated for his contribution to engineering.

Arnold Bennett, a novelist who wrote ‘The Clayhanger’ trilogy, is also up for the prize.

The recipient will receive the  award at a Federation Dinner held on March 31 at The King’s Hall in Stoke.

The Stoke-on-Trent heartthrob will join the esteemed ranks of Elton John, Eric Clapton and Freddy Mercury who have previously won the Outstanding Contribution prize.

Williams will also face of against Mika, Paolo Nutini, Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris for the best Male Solo Artist award.

Ged Doherty, chairman of the Brits committee said: “It’s an exciting line-up. These acts are young, vibrant and hugely talented. Each brings something different to the Brits party. With Robbie Williams already confirmed and more surprises in store, Brits 30 will be the music event of the year.”

Some rumours have circulated that Robbie will reunite with his former band mates Take That for his second song at the ceremony, as it is also Take That’s 20th anniversary.

The Stoke-born singer was being interviewed on 2DayFM’s Kyle and Jackie O show when he revealed that long term girlfriend Ayda Field was also in the studio with him.

Presenter Jackie O commented that Sydney had a reputation for celebrity proposals before asking Williams if he “had anything to share”.

The Brit-pop singer then turned to Field and asked, “Ayda Field, I love you so much…will you marry me?”

She replied, “Yes I’ll marry you.”

The on-air proposal was sealed with Jackie O providing her ring for Williams to slide onto Fields’ finger.

The couple met after friends set them up on a blind date and Robbie revealed earlier in the interview that he didn’t initially like Fields when they began dating saying that he thought she was “mental”.

By Stephen Stringer: Robbie Williams appeared on stage with former band mates, Take That, for the first time in nearly 15 years.

The Stoke-born singer was welcomed on stage by pal Gary Barlow during the recording of a charity gig to raise money for Children in Need.

However, the band did not perform together at the Royal Albert Hall as rumoured, although plans for the band reuniting are still strong.

Robbie told the BBC that the reunion plans are still going ahead and he’s very excited.

He added that he hopes people don’t get bored of the idea before it actually happens.

The Children in Need show, which also features Cheryl Cole and Snow Patrol, will be screened Thursday November 19.
