Free school transport cut for Staffordshire Catholic schools

By Margaretha de Clercq: More than 1,800 students will lose their free bus travel in September if Staffordshire County Council’s bid to save cash goes ahead.
Transport of children attending Catholic schools costs the county council area just over £1.3million a year.
The council says the rules are unfair, as other students are only subsidised to schools in their catchment area and not to schools of choice.

Four injured in Staffordshire M6 collision

By Margaretha de Clercq: Four people have been taken to hospital following a collision on the M6.
The accident happened yesterday (April 29) after a lorry and car collided at 5am, between junctions 15 and 16.
Drivers experienced delays on the northbound side of the motorway, which was not re-opened until midday.
A 23-year-old man suffered a head injury, while another, aged 19, sustained a severe cut to his head.
Also involved was a 23-year-old female passenger who incurred pain to her hip.  A fourth man, aged 20, was also taken to hospital.

Shoppers show support for Newcastle town centre

Firms join Burton firefighters to promote motorcycle safety

Last year, 364 motorcyclists were killed or injured on Staffordshire roads, compared to 418 in 2008.
Now bike dealers and a local pub have teamed up to offer safety advice as more bikers hit the roads in the spring and summer months.

Burton residents angry over delayed pothole repairs

By Elliot Hodgett: Residents of Bearwood Hill Road, Winshill, are furious about a two week delay to fill deep potholes in their road.
Staffordshire County Council Highway Maintenance told residents the potholes would be filled on March 29, but no work has begun.
Karen Salisbury, 51, who lives on Mill Hill Lane, said: “It’s been over two weeks from the promised repair date and still the holes in the road get bigger and more dangerous for drivers, bike-riders and residents.”
