Lichfield firm celebrates Staffordshire Hoard through parsnips

By Tom Shingler: A Staffordshire-based vegetable grower has unveiled a unique take on buried treasure after re-branding their primary export of parsnips to help promote the county.

R&RW Bartlett, owned by father and son Roy and Rod Bartlett, have decided to rename their parsnips as ‘Staffordshire Gold Parsnips’ to commemorate the Staffordshire Hoard.

Staffordshire Hoard experts to host talks

By Jake Mundy: Two talks will be held at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery to celebrate the successful campaign to save the treasured hoard.
The Anglo-Saxon treasure, found last July in Staffordshire, had been the focus of an extensive campaign to raise the money to buy it and keep it in the Midlands. It was reported last month that a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund had provided the £1.28million needed to purchase the hoard.

Finding place of Staffordshire hoard revealed in documentary

By Ted Woodward: A Channel 4 television programme has revealed for the first time the site where the Staffordshire Hoard was found.
The documentary, entitled “Saxon Gold: Finding The Hoard”, revealed the hoard was found in the village of Hammerwich, four miles from Lichfield.
Residents had been aware of the hoard’s whereabouts but the location was not revealed to the public for fear it might encourage plunderers with metal detectors to descend on the site.

Ticket prices for Staffordshire Hoard film are slashed

By Jay Seville & Charlotte McKenzie: The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery has cut ticket prices to the premiere of a National Geographic film about the Staffordshire Hoard.
A special preview screening of the film will take place at 3pm today (March 26)  and tickets are now just £5, with all proceeds going to the Hoard Aquisition Fund.
Producers from the 50-minute documentary will be present at the event to talk about how the film was made.

Staffordshire Hoard saved by £1.2m National Heritage Fund grant

By Lucy Rouse: The Staffordshire Hoard will remain in the West Midlands after the £3.3 million needed to purchase it was met ahead of the April 17 deadline.
A grant of £1.285m from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) was confirmed today (March 23).

Previews of Staffordshire Hoard film to be shown in Stoke-on-Trent

By Amy Dennis: Special preview screenings of a National Geographic film about the Staffordshire Hoard are to take place at The Potteries Museum in Stoke-on-Trent

Saxon Gold – Finding the Hoard is narrated by Bernard Hill of Titanic and Lord of the Rings fame, and two screenings will take place on March 26 at 3pm and 6pm.
Richard Belfield, the film’s executive producer, will be at the museum’s Forum Theatre to give an introduction.

Banners back Staffordshire Hoard fundraising campaign

By Andrew Stuart: Three banners promoting the Staffordshire Hoard have gone up in Lichfield.
It is hoped that the banners will boost the fundraising effort to keep the Anglo-Saxon gold in the region. At the moment, over £1million has been raised – but the team behind the campaign is still some way off the £5million needed.
The first banner was put up outside the Lichfield Garrick, with the others displayed at St Johns House in Lichfield, and on the railings outside Chase Terrace Technology College in Burntwood.

Is there anything to celebrate in Stoke-on-Trent?

The event on March 31 is the celebration of six towns – Burslem, Fenton, Hanley, Longton, Stoke and Tunstall – coming together to form one city.
