By Liam Kerin: More than 400 jobs a year are to be created in Stoke-on-Trent as work starts on the redevelopment of a disused pottery factory.
The Enson works site in Longton is to be transformed into a Centre of Refurbishment Excellence (CoRE), which will provide training and demonstration in the area.
It’s hoped through the work of the CoRE project that 700 people a year will enhance their skills and as a result of business activities once the project is up and running, and 400 jobs will be created in the region.

By Louise Bawden: Controversy over the potential closure of seven of Stoke-on-Trent’s 16 children’s centres could come to a head today (January 27).
The public debate over the closure has been fierce with campaigners compiling a 5,600-signature petition which they handed to Stoke City Council leaders.
Now the issue which will be addressed at today’s Stoke City Council meeting, as councillors discuss whether closing them is worth the potential savings of £750,000.
There will also be another protest before the meeting by the SOC group.

By Matt Bowling: Stoke City Council is pumping more than £5 million into the former Spode Works site to stop private developers buying it.
The 18th century site is to under-go a massive re-development as part of a multi-million pound regeneration project paid for by the city council.
The council approved proposals to fight off private investment and buy the land at a secret council meeting on Wednesday night.
Plans are rumoured to include converting the buildings into luxury apartments, business space and opening a Potteries museum.
