Owners of controversial Stoke-on-Trent scrapyard pull out of meeting

By Michelle Sarel & Rosie Milsom: Residents who complained about a scrapyard in Longton were left disappointed when the owners of the businesses failed to turn up for a public meeting.

The meeting was due to start at 10am on Wednesday (April 13), but the owners EMR pulled out, saying they needed to review their application to increase the work carried out on the site.

Hanley pet shop closing after almost 60 years

By Calum Donoghue: A Stoke-on-Trent pet shop is leaving Hanley after almost 60 years of trading.

Family-owned Hancock’s Pet Centre is having to move to Burslem to make way for the multi-million pound Central Business District (CBD) regeneration plans.

Owner Neil Hancock said: “We’re moving our premises and concentrating more on our wholesale internet business.”

Thousands of bikers join Staffordshire charity ride

By Martin O’Connor & Josh Hoare: Thousands of bikers from across Staffordshire shrugged off their tough image to take part in a charity ride.

More than 4,000 joined the 33rd annual motorcycle run from the Britannia Stadium to the Kings Hall in Stoke.

The bike run sees riders from across the region collect eggs for local hospices such as The Donna Louise Trust.

Fegg Hayes thug served with indefinite ASBO

By Luke Mallett: A 19-year-old man has been served with an ASBO following a “catalogue of dreadful acts” in Fegg Hayes, Stoke-on-Trent.

Matthew Hancock, 19, of Cumberland Avenue, had 17 different allegations of anti-social behaviour brought against him by Stoke-on-Trent’s Safer City Partnership at Fenton magistrates.

Free Sunday parking ends in Stoke-on-Trent

By Jess Skinner and Joe Blake:Traders and shoppers in Stoke-on-Trent have expressed their outrage after plans to scrap free Sunday parking in the city centre were given the go ahead.

From April 1, Sunday shoppers will no longer be able to park free within the city centre. The free initiative is being replaced by a new flat rate charge with customers paying £1.50 to park for the whole day.

Packmoor Park project gets council go-ahead

By Danielle Bagnall: Plans for the refurbishment of Packmoor Park have been approved by Stoke City Council, despite objections.

More than 150 people signed a petition against the plans, while another 186 backed the scheme.
