The following information should be used to inform the booking of modulettes:

General Information

• Technical Instructors (TIs) do a maximum of 4 x two-hour sessions or equivalent (e.g. 8 x 1 hour) per week unless special arrangements are made with the TI and they are willing to do more. Normally software sessions.
• The technical instruction summary should be used to identify rooms, possible instructors and pre-requisities.
• We try to avoid booking TI in weeks 20-21 and 37-40 to ensure workshops remain available for open access.
• Generally TI bookings (except computing) start at 10:00am or 2:00pm.
• Sufficient time for TIs to have a lunchbreak and to set-up between sessions much be allowed e.g. we wouldn’t book Ti sessions for a TI back to back unless they were short sessions.
• TIs should ideally have at least one week’s notice of a scheduled session– shorter notice sessions should be checked direct with the TI before confirming the booking.
• Where more than one TI can deliver a modulette bookings should be spread out in the fairest way possible.
• Modulettes are not booked in on Wednesday afternoons which are designated
  ‘Maintenance Slots’ when most workshops remain closed.
• New, amended or cancelled bookings should be communicated with TI, Technical Manager and requester.
• Where there is a gap in the skills of the existing technical staff or if there is insufficient technical time available at the required time it is possible to bring someone in to deliver modulettes on a casual basis if someone can be found.

Individual Workshop Information

Photography Computing Workshops

• Catherine Dineley works Mon, Wed-Fri in Photography when she is available for Photography modulettes and she works Tuesdays in Surface Decoration when she is available for S.D. modulettes.
• Mid-semester studio bookings (ie H034, H050, H037) should be checked with the technicians before booking confirmation is made to ensure local student bookings haven’t been made at that time (students can book studios up to 2 weeks in advance).
• Bookings should be made into the smallest room available at the time that will fit the group – ie groups of 15 or less should be made into the smaller CW5 if available at the required time.
• Room bookings for lecturing staff should be made around modulette bookings or in the 9:00am-11:00am slot if a regular session in needed.
• Computer workshops should not be made to reserve a room for open access to a single course – if no lecture or modulette session is happening the rooms should be available for open access for students from all courses.

Ceramic Workshops

• Tony Plant works only Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Print Decoration / Printmaking Workshop

• There is no member of staff to deliver Printmaking modulettes at present– no bookings can be taken.
• Print decoration modulettes requested by courses other than Ceramics need to be negotiated with the core users to ensure that the necessary open access is available after the TI sessions – refer to the Technical Manager with these requests.

Surface Decoration Workshop

• Surface Decoration modulettes requested by courses other than Surface Pattern need to be negotiated with Sarah Peart to ensure that the necessary open access is available after the TI sessions – refer to the Technical Manager with these requests.
• Students need to do an intro to the workshop modulette every year before
  access to the workshop is available.

Media Centre Bookings

• These are booked directly with the Media Centre Manager.

Individual Technician Information

Heidi Crabbe

• Max 2 sessions per week.

Stuart Porter

• Stuart works Wednesdays and Thursdays, available for TI 2 x 2 hour sessions a week (max 4 hours).
