What it's about
The areas of media and leisure are interlinked and represent the most dynamic and fastest growing industry sectors, which play an ever more important role in our lives. This award combines a study of the media with the industries of leisure within a unique, flexible and versatile opportunity for study.
What you do
The award will provide a solid disciplinary foundation in the study of the media - the relationship and application of media and media discourse, to the host of leisure industries. Crucially, the award will give the opportunity for students to specialise and pursue pathways which will be built around various industries - for example, the music industry, theme park industry, film industry, factual broadcasting industry and community arts industries.
The award will enable you to concentrate on areas particular to your own background, experience, interests and vocational direction, with emphasis placed on a mix of taught courses, but importantly, building up to project work, to help you to truly pursue and hone your own particular specialisms. Although the disciplinary spine will be based firmly within the humanities, opportunities to pursue secondary, related, cross-disciplinary study will be offered (such as marketing, sport, tourism).
The structure of the award will anchor the pathways to taught courses through Levels 1 and 2, whilst emphasis will be placed on a mix of taught courses and individual/independent project work at Level 3. Where appropriate, study will be linked to relevant external organisations to provide strong and tangible contexts for particular project work and also provide a vocational component to the award.
Where next
The award is aimed at those wishing to study, work or enhance prospects within an already existent career, within the creative, innovative, administrative, policy and educational side of the media and leisure industries. If students wish to further their study, the award could also lead appropriately to an MA, including the MA in Media and Arts Management. |
