Room image The JCB Schools Design & Technology Centre based at Staffordshire University provides excellent facilities and expert tuition using Pro/DESKTOP 3D modelling software. The facility can accommodate pupils on 20 workstations. Courses taught at the JCB Schools Design and Technology Centre can be tailored to specific requirements. Full support is given by the tutor with the aid of a technician to ensure that any difficulties or mistakes are quickly rectified.
Pro/Desktop is taught to three levels, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Students work on each level for a maximum of three half day sessions. Generally, beginners will, after a short presentation about the use of CAD/CAM follow step-by-step instructions displayed using the interactive whiteboard. A simple 3D model of a mobile phone allows students to use the basic features of Pro/Desktop. Telephone image

We offer a beginners course for Systems and Control using a suite of Economatics “Smart” boxes in conjunction with LOGICATOR software. The CNC laser cutter allows us to demonstrate modern manufacturing methods.

The CNC router is demonstrated to allow students to see how their design can be manufactured. If time allows, student’s own designs are manufactured.

We also have access to other CNC equipment including an FDM rapid prototyping machine which may be used for specific projects.
