This article highlights innovative work by the Creative Communities Unit (CCU) at Staffordshire University in delivering a programme of citizenship training, funded by Take Part through Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
The aim of the courses is to equip community members with the skills and confidence needed to take on a more active role in their community. The first cohort of students completed the courses in March 2010, and for many the university qualification that they gained was the first educational qualification of their lives.
