  • The cuticular biochemistry of haematophagous insects
  • The role of surface biochemistry in insect mate choice and insect mating behaviour
  • Reproductive isolation and niche differentiation in species complexes of mosquitoes and other important haematophagous insects
  • British mosquito ecology and cuticular biochemistry
  • Biochemical applications of SPME, GC and GC/MS
  • Relationships between insects and bacteria
  • Host-parasite interactions: particularly the biochemical effects of parasite presence and its influence on insect behaviour

  • Collaboration with Dr Roger Wood (University of Manchester) on genetic basis of mosquito cuticular hydrocarbon expression.
  • Investigations into the Molecular Biology of insect mating behaviour with Dr Roger Butlin (University of Leeds) and Dr Roger Wood (University of Manchester)
  • Analysis of Tanzanian mosquito samples with Prof Chris Curtis (LSHTM)
  • Studies into the susceptibility of British Mosquitoes to Plasmodium falciparum with Prof Chris Curtis (LSHTM) and Dr Lisa Randford-Cartwright (University of Edinburgh)
