Peter Barker spent many years working in industry, with the last 20 years spent at board level in the construction sector.

Due to rapidly failing eyesight, he took early retirement in 1991, and set up the Joint Mobility Unit as a collaborative venture between the RNIB and GDBA.  He is a member of the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee, the Walking/Cycling Forum, and was a member of the Walking Strategy Steering Group.

The Joint Mobility Unit is the largest access organisation in the UK, combining policy work, research and development and consultancy.  It operates from headquarters in London, and regional offices in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Leeds.
