IESR has organised several series of seminars relating to environment and sustainability issues. Previous seminar series are listed below.

2006

Following the Asian Tsunami of 2005, Staffordshire was paired with the Ampara district of Sri Lanka to aid with relief work. The work of the Staffordshire Tsunami Consortium was showcased in a seminar organised by IESR on 6th December 2006. Talks were as follows:

Steve Hopkins (Staffordshire County Council): The work of the Local Government International Bureau.

Giri Rajaratnam (South Stoke Primnary Care Trust) and Pete Old (Shropshire Primary Care Trusts): Major Incident Planning in developing countries: what sort of support do they need?

Ruth Plant (Lichfield District Council): Waste management in Ampara District.

2005

IESR Seminars 2005

In the autumn of 2005 the Seminar series was directed primarily at visiting students on the distance learning course in Sustainable Development.

October 25th. Jo Stott, Environment Officer "Greensteps", Stoke City Council:
Sustainability in a Local Authority Context.           

October 26th. Pankaj Gupta, Documentary film maker:
Excerpts from films about sustainable farming in India.

November 2nd. Professor Gordon Walker, Lancaster Environment Centre:
Environmental justice and sustainability: exploring inequalities and interconnections.        

November 9th. Chris Thomas, Policy and Sustainability Officer, Reading Borough Council:
Green Governance - competing or complementary discourses? (Integrating sustainability into Local Authority practice).
