Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with IESR
If your company works in areas such as pollution control, energy innovation, biodiversity, green infrastructure or environmental hazards and risks, your business could benefit from the development of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with IESR.
What is a KTP?
A KTP is a collaboration between a business and an academic institution that is aimed at improving the competitiveness of the company by enabling it to access academic knowledge, expertise and resources that might otherwise be unavailable to it.
Through this transfer of knowledge from the academic community to the world of business, a KTP can therefore help to develop products, solve problems and drive forward innovation.
How does a KTP work?
Each KTP is part funded by Government and part funded by the company. The funding pays for the appointment of a KTP Associate who normally will work within your company on the agreed project, but with academic inputs and guidance from staff in IESR.
Within the limits of the expertise of the staff in IESR, the KTP is tailored to meet the knowledge transfer requirements of your company. Associates are normally recent graduates from a discipline that relates to your company’s area of interest and in many cases, the Associate will seek to use the experience of the project to provide the basis for a higher degree of the university.
In so doing, each KTP is designed to address your company’s strategic plans whilst at the same time providing an intellectual challenge to the KTP Associate and the opportunity to progress their personal and career development.
How long does a KTP last?
A KTP is normally designed to last between 24 and 36 months.
How do I find out more?
If you would like to discuss the possibility of a KTP with IESR, please contact our Administrative Officer Christine Dover, either by telephone on 01782 294110 or by e-mail at C.J.Dover@staffs.ac.uk
She will put you in touch with a member of the IESR team who will then work with you to develop a proposal. If you decide to proceed to apply for a KTP, we have a dedicated team of people in the University who are able to provide assistance with the process of application for KTP funding, which is done jointly by the company and the university partner.
