Dr Aoife Healy

Job Title and Responsibilities

Associalte Professor of Human Movement Biomechanics

I work within the Clinical Biomechanics team where my research focuses on lower limb biomechanics.

About me

I joined Staffordshire University as a KTP Research Associate on a project examining diabetic footwear in October 2009.

In 2006 I graduated from the University of Limerick with a BSc in Sports and Exercise Sciences. Following this I completed a MSc in Biomechanics at Dublin City University. My doctoral thesis at Staffordshire University examined the effect of therapeutic footwear on gait, focusing on diabetes and materials.

Qualifications

  • PhD (2015) Clinical Biomechanics, Staffordshire Universiy

  • MSc (2009) Biomechanics, Dublin City University.

  • BSc (2006) Sport and Exercise Science, University of Limerick.

Professional Memberships and Activities

  • Member of the International Society of Biomechanics

  • Member of Footwear Biomechanics Group (International Society of Biomechanics)

  • Member of Global Cooperation on Assistive Technology community

  • Member of Clinical Movement Analysis Society (UK)

  • Member of International Foot and Ankle Biomechanics

  • Member of the Marie Curie Alumni Association

Research Interests

My research interests are assistive technology, gait analysis, and plantar pressure measurement. I was awarded prestigious grant funding from the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO)/World Health Organisation (WHO) to complete a systematic review of prosthetic and orthotic services. Subsequently, I have become a member of the Global Cooperation on Assistive Technology (GATE) community, whose goal is to improve access to high-quality affordable assistive products globally.
