What it's about
The specific focus of the MSc in Economics for Business Analysis is the analysis of business from the viewpoint of the discipline of economics. In particular, economics analysis is applied to fundamental issues related to the behaviour and performance of modern business organisation. However, in the process of studying the theoretical concepts and empirical methods necessary for research activity in this area, students also appreciate the research process applicable to most areas of economics. There are OSI Chevening scholarships available on this award.
What you do
There are eight taught modules followed by a dissertation in a related area of your choice. Macroeconomic Analysis provides the background against which any analyses of business must take place. In Economic Analysis of the Firm 1 and 2 the essential nature of the firm and its relationship to other firms is considered using modern economic theory and actual cases. Personnel Economics concerns the contractual relationships between the company and its employees. Research Methods in Economics 1 and 2 and Business Finance and Financial Analysis provide students with the ability to assemble, analyse and interpret data and published work in the area.
Where Next?
The programme aims to give a basis for a career as a business analyst in a financial, industrial or government organisation. Many of our postgradute students are developing high ranking careers in government, international organisation, business and universities. For instance, in the last four years we have had students who are now employed as university lecturers, in banks and multinational companies. Many have also gone on to regiser for PhDs.
