Wifi

You should always be able to get online at Staffordshire University, with a variety of ways to connect to suit every visitor.

Are you a Staffordshire student?

If you are a Staffordshire University student, we have a wireless network just for you called Airnet.  To connect your phone / computer to Airnet, simply do the following:

  1. Scan for available wifi networks.

  2. Connect to the one called Airnet-Student.

  3. When prompted, enter your username and password.

  4. Click the Join button (or this may say Connect or OK depending on your device).

  5. If you are then given a warning, please click Trust or Connect to confirm that you trust our network.

  6. If you are required to install a security certificate to connect to WiFi, the university’s root certificate is available for download.

Once connected, your device should remember these settings, and will automatically connect you to Airnet-Student wifi wherever it is available.

Visiting another university?

eduroam

If you are going to another university, or if you are just visiting Staffordshire University from another HEI, you can always connect to the eduroam wireless network.

You can find full details about eduroam on their website www.eduroam.org, but what it basically means is that you will always have a wifi connection no matter which educational institution you are at.

To connect to eduroam, please do the following:

  1. Scan for available wifi networks.

  2. Connect to the one called eduroam.

  3. When asked for your username, you must enter your full University email address as your username.  This will look something like this:  a012345f@student.staffs.ac.uk

  4. When asked for your password, enter your normal University password (the same one you would use for Blackboard, email, etc.).

  5. Click the Join button (or this may say Connect or OK depending on your device).

  6. If you are then given a warning, please click Trust or Connect to confirm that you trust our network.

It is a good idea to connect your device to eduroam while you are here at Staffordshire University so that you know it works.  That way, if you need help setting it up you can contact Digital Services for help, and we may not be able to help if you are at another location as we won't have any control over their network infrastructure.

Public wifi

If you are on campus and have no particular affiliation with the University you are still welcome to use the Internet, via our free to use guest wifi network.

To access this service, search for wifi networks and connect to the one called WiFi Guest.  Once connected, open a web browser and click Go in the web portal.

If you have ever used guest wifi in a hotel or restaurant, it should be a familiar process.  You will be asked to register with an email address.  You only have to do this once, and WiFi Guest will then remember your details and connect automatically.

Full details are listed in this PDF guide:  Download WiFi Guest guide (PDF, file size: 521.49KB)
