Environmental Regulation

  • The Environment Agency- public body responsible for the protection and improvement of the environment in England and Wales
  • NetRegs – provides free environmental guidance for small businesses in the UK

Energy

  • The Carbon Trust - an independent company funded by Government with the purpose of helping businesses and the public sector reduce carbon emissions now and capture the commercial opportunities of low carbon technologies
  • Energy Saving Trust - a not for profit organisation, funded by both the government and the private sector, set up to address the damaging effects of climate change by reducing carbon dioxide emissions through the promotion of sustainable and efficient energy use

Waste Management & Recycling

  • Envirowise – offers free and confidential advice to UK businesses, to assist them to increase profitability and reduce environmental impact
  • Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) – a not for profit organisation which works with businesses to encourage and enable them to be more efficient in their use of materials and recycle more often

 

Sustainable Travel

  • ACT TravelWise - provides support to organisations that need to reduce the number cars driving onto site, through the introduction of a Travel Plan
  • TransportEnergy – part of the Energy Saving Trust, aiming to assist individuals and organisations who are interested in sustainable travel
  • Transport Research Laboratory – internationally recognised organisation providing research, consultancy, advice and testing for all aspects of transport

Car Sharing

  • Staffordshire Share-A-Lift - a scheme developed by Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council in partnership with Jambusters Limited to provide a county-wide lift share matching scheme

Cycling

  • Sustrans – sustainable transport charity working on practical, innovative ways of dealing with the transport challenges
    Company of Cyclists – provides cycling promotion and support services
  • Bike Week – an annual nationwide campaign to increase participation in organised cycling, to encourage one-time cyclists to return to the road, and to promote nationally the wider social and environmental benefits of more people cycling to work

Public Transport

  • First Group (Staffordshire & South Cheshire) - operate a large number of buses throughout Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and surrounding areas
  • Traveline - a service providing impartial journey planning information about all public transport services throughout England, Wales and Scotland
