Important Top Tips

  • Remember it is important to change your IT password after you first log on, this should be a combination of numbers and letters to make your password more secure.  You can find out more information here

  • USB sticks are not reliable – do not depend on them!  Several students are losing their work every day at this university due to corrupt and lost USB sticks. Never keep the only copy of any document on a USB stick – several are lost every day, and they can fail at any moment. Always keep a copy of your work on in your OneDrive, or your email.

  • Remember to save your work frequently.  All applications allow you to save your work by pressing CTRL+S on your keyboard. This takes 1 second, and could save you hours of having to recreate a document. Although every effort is put into making the Staffordshire University computers as stable as possible, all computers do occasionally crash. Press CTRL+S as often as you can to avoid losing your work.

The Service Desk has experienced and friendly staff who are there to give help and support to both staff and students with their IT queries both on and off campus.

Telephone support is available day or night, over weekends and during bank holidays via dedicated staff and student phone lines.
