What we can do for you:

We provide support for:

  • library (information literacy) instruction, literature reviews

  • e-resources (databases, e-journals, catalogues and other learning software)

  • learning and educational technology, plagiarism (referencing skills and reference management software) and MS office. 

Learning sessions can be organised and delivered in liaison with Librarians throughout the academic year. 

Learning opportunities can include embedded or stand alone sessions or workshops, 1 to 1 tutorials, and regular drop in sessions throughout the academic year.

How to use them:

Learning events can be pre-arranged by School staff with librarians at any site library in person, by telephone or by email. Staff and students can request 1 to 1 information research support sessions with librarians at any site library in person, by telephone or by email. Drop-in sessions are delivered at Thompson library throughout the academic year.  Current activities are available on the What's on web page

When these are available:

Face-to-face service is available from 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.  Sessions can be pre-arranged outside of these times to suit learning needs and include evening and weekend support.

Charges:

There is no charge for these services.

Learning Applications Support

Our promise to you:

We will respond to 100% of enquiries for support with technology applications within 5 working days.

What we can do for you:

We provide support for learning technologies applications, such as:

  • Plagiarism software

  • Bibliographic software - RefWorks

  • Qualtrics survey software

  • Web technologies e.g. blogs, podcasts, social media

How we support you:

Support for Students with a Disability

Our promise to you:

On notification from Student Enabling services, we will respond to requests for individual support for students on library resources and 100% of the requests will be met within 5 working days.

What we can do for you:

We offer individual support for students, advising on appropriate equipment, access to library buildings and navigation around buildings and advise on finding and using library resources.

Who this is for:

Students with a referral from AccessAbility Services.

Contact Customer Service Desks, Library helpdesks or IT helpdesks

Support for students and staff with disabilities

Support for Research

Our promise to you:

We will help customers with research, literature searches etc and will satisfy 95% of requests within 5 working days.

What we can do for you:

We can help customers with their research, including; advice and support for literature searching, advice on using other libraries, advice on technology to support research e.g. RefWorks. This can be delivered as individual appointments or workshops.

Academic Skills Support

Our promises to you:

95% of initial requests from academic staff for an Academic Skills group session will have a date for this confirmed within 5 working days.

We will help customers with requests for individual study skills support and will satisfy 95% of requests within 5 working days.

95% of those who receive Academic Skills support rate it positively

We offer a range of support options including:

  • Bookable and drop-in tutorials for individuals and small groups

  • Academic skills teaching through lectures, workshops and activities

  • Help sheets to support academic skills are available at centres and online
