Schools and Services have been reviewing your feedback from 2018 to create positive changes across the university for your student experience. Please find below examples where you spoke up about issues and we listened to you.

 

School of Computing and Digital Technologies

 

YOU SAID

"We want to learn additional and different networking technologies"

WE DID

We incorporated sessions and events on the Amazon Web Service (AWS)

YOU SAID

"We are struggling to find spaces in labs to work on specialist software, especially in longer blocks."

WE DID

We worked with the timetabling team to identify rooms that were free and made block bookings to keep the rooms free. We then updated final year project students timetable to reflect when the rooms were free so they could easily check which spaces were booked.

"We want more opportunities for industrial visits and career events"

WE DID

We opened more competitions and highlighted opportunities to visit various events through Blackboard announcements such as: Connected Futures, Hult Prize Competition, IMechE competitions and placement talks.

We added more companies in to the syllabus for you to work with, including Wilkos, Clintons and Johnson Tiles.

We increased our staffing provision to include new specialist lecturers including widely published children's book authors and illustrators to deliver creative, real world briefs. Guest speakers were added from January to include illustrators and graduates.

WE DID

We reviewed the timetabled sessions to ensure a balance of theory and practical sessions using clinical simulation equipment

WE DID

Between semester 1 and semester two we changed the timetable to accommodate having seminars directly after lectures.

WE DID

We created a feedback system called "Even better if" to give you the opportunity to feedback to staff. This has led to refurbishment of the staff and student kitchen, heaters in every classroom, student led events such as Nescliffe army challenge, charity events, exercise bikes and more!

"We want more information on our optional modules"

WE DID

We changed the way we approach law options. Now providing students with a detailed guide ahead of Christmas, an 'options marketplace' at student conferences to give out information and a briefing on how module enrolment will take place has been integrated.

"We want Forensic Chemical and Biological Techniques to not have a break between Material Delivery"

WE DID

We changed the module so that the lab work is done directly after the Chemical Material module delivery had finished.

We expanded our links with employers to provide a greater number of work placement opportunities and offered a visit to international universities including Nippon Sport Science University in Tokyo.
