What's in the CHOP Collection?

This collection, owned by Graham Richards, contains material from psychology and associated fields such as:

  • linguistics, 
  • sociology, 
  • human evolution
  • philosophy.

The particular focus of the collection is the history and development of the study of psychology and it includes many rare historical materials, the oldest of which is Edward Reynolds' A Treatise of the Soule of Man, published in 1640. Also included are 19th Century English texts related to the emergence of psychology as a discipline.

Areas of 20th Century psychology in which the collection is particularly strong include:

  • race and racism issues, 
  • popular psychologists of the inter-war period, 
  • child development and education, 
  • social psychology and personality.
