Biology is at the forefront of solving many of our global challenges. From saving threatened species to revolutionising treatment for disease using a person’s genetic code. Now’s your chance to make a difference by joining the scientists discovering the amazing advances of the future.
Our Biological Science degree will help you understand and explore the living world around you. Whether tackling issues to do with humans, wildlife or plants, you’ll learn how to ask the big questions and delve into data-driven evidence.
The possibilities are endless. It could involve analysing the impact of drugs on the environment, debating bioethics, championing sustainability or identifying the DNA sequences that are core to genomics.
From day one, you’ll be treated as a University scientist and not just a student. You’ll be part of our active research community and will work with experts on live projects.
We focus on practical and applied learning, with field trips, real-world challenges and plenty of opportunities to put your skills and knowledge into action. Our academics will be there to support you every step of the way and nurture your passion for science.
You’ll also get a personalised degree, tailored to your interests. You can select to study Biological Science in general or specialise in one of our pathways:
- Ecology and Environmental Management
- Genomics
- Pharmacology
- Pre-Med
You can wait until your second year to decide if you wish to specialise.
We offer guaranteed work placements and you can choose to complete these with a wide variety of employers locally, nationally or abroad.
There are also different study routes. If you would like an advanced qualification, why not opt for our integrated Masters course over four years?
Or if you’ve had a significant break in your studies and want to brush up on your scientific knowledge, we also offer a BSc (Hons) with a Foundation Year. For the first year, you will study at Stoke-on-Trent College and will then join the BSc (Hons) course at the University.
Our courses are accredited by the Royal Society of Biology, which means they contain a solid foundation of biological knowledge and key skills to help meet the needs of employers.
As a biological scientist, your skills will be in high demand once you graduate.
