Cloud and Commercial Networking

Overview

As businesses grapple with ever more data, the world of cloud computing is revolutionising the workplace.

This is your chance to understand its growing role in IT services and to learn how to master cloud networking.

The short course is ideal if you want to start a new career as a skilled developer, able to design and manage a network.

It’s also a great way to dip your toes into higher education and see if you want to build on the module to take a full computing-related degree.

Through face-to-face classes and independent study, you will cover a range of topics.

These will include learning fundamental networking concepts such as OSI, TCP and UDP communications, IP addressing, Ethernet, wireless networks, switching and routing.

You’ll investigate cloud computing by using Amazon Web Services and will look at different aspects of this technology.

We have linked up with a specialist data management company to help deliver some of the course. Assessments will use real world challenges.

Course delivery

The short course will include lectures and practical sessions. Your time attending classes could be split between one of our partner colleges and Staffordshire University’s main campus.

There will also be input from a specialist company to give you an insight into how these skills are applied in the workplace.

We are working with South Staffordshire College and Burton and South Derbyshire College on delivering the module.

Assessment

You will be given a realistic case study, which will get you to investigate networking uses and suggest ways to enhance the infrastructure. The assignment will be around 2,500 words long.

You will also draw on the technologies introduced within the module – both from a theoretical and practical perspective – to help solve the case study challenge.
