Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing is an area of increasing importance within the enterprise environment. This course will look at the usage of Cloud Computing and the factors that impact its adoption in businesses such as compute, databases, storage network considerations, security, scalability, and distribution.

The module will look at all these topics and will give the students access to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment to apply the theoretical knowledge that they have gained. At the end of the module, the student will have an understanding of why companies are moving toward the cloud. The student will also become more confident in using the environment.

Course overview

This module is designed to introduce you to commercial cloud computing using Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the practical element. In the sessions, we will look at the theory to give you a detailed understanding and then provide access to a sandbox environment in AWS where you can apply your theoretical knowledge in a commercially practical way.

Generally, we will look at the following topics over your time with us:

  • Cloud adoption models
  • Charging models which can be used
  • Cloud Computing using Amazon Web Services
  • Understanding of the underlying infrastructure and concepts
  • The shared responsibility security model
  • Networking in the Cloud
  • Servers and ensuring that they are highly available
  • Cloud Databases and the different considerations
  • Monitoring and securing options
  • Serverless Compute and the considerations of the technology

Course aims

At the end of this module, you will have skills and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Using Amazon Web Services for Cloud Computing
  • Knowledge of the underlying infrastructure and concepts
  • Understanding the shared responsibility security model
  • How to network in the Cloud
  • Ensuring that servers are available
  • Comprehension of Cloud databased, serverless compute and more

  • Companies are moving toward using cloud environments and require staff who have the skills in designing efficient cloud architectures
  • Understanding of the decisions which can be made to improve the performance of their infrastructure
  • The confidence to correctly configure the cloud and as such can experiment with this in a corporate environment
  • Understanding the billing models design and monitoring techniques; this will support the learner in avoiding any unexpected bills when potentially deployed in a company
  • This course will give the learner a great understanding of this technology and how it operates
  • The practical sessions will be carried out using Amazon Web Services (AWS) to ensure that the learners' skills are industry-ready
  • AWS is one of the leading global cloud providers and the skills can be used for international setups of the Cloud
  • A better understanding of networking, servers, storage, services and databases

  • This is an entry-level introductory course, so it is open to all that have an interest in cloud computing
  • The candidates in this will be people who want to understand why companies advertise they are moving to a cloud-based solution
  • Technical staff who have detailed on-premise knowledge but recognise that in the future the company may look at this technology
  • Managers who want to understand the considerations of a cloud deployment in their company
  • Anybody looking to change areas of knowledge disciplines
  • Anybody looking to decide whether to pursue certifications or a role in this area
