Reinforce your status in human resource management with our CIPD Level 7 Diploma in Human Resource Management. With Staffordshire University, you’ll gain the high standard of skills required to be an effective senior manager in the human resources field.

Take the next step on the road to becoming a human resource specialist with our widely recognised Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. We will will help you learn skills to move forward with your career at the same time, as well as giving you the qualification you need to apply for chartered status with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD).

Through a combination of on and off campus learning, we will give you skills that you can apply to your current role in the human resource (HR) sector, whilst looking to forward your career. These include vital leadership skills, resourcing and talent management.

You will study modules that are relevant to your work issues, set by the University tutors, who are all are all experienced human resource practitioners. We will give you the skills to build your HR career and we have 25 years’ experience, alongside former students that are now senior HR executives in local and national organisations, to prove just that.

On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: PgDip Human Resource Management

Course content

Our CIPD Level 7 Diploma in Human Resource Management is a 1-year part-time course.

You will study Investigating a Business Issue from a HR Perspective as a core module. The remaining two modules are optional and determined via employer and student surveys. This ensures that we deliver modules that are appropriate for the needs of you and your employer. Examples of option modules available include: Managing Employee Relations, Performance Management, Employment Law, Learning and Talent Development, and Understanding and Implementing Coaching and Mentoring.

Be prepared for a challenge: the pace will be fast. Instead of relying on theory, the course is based on 'problem and practice-based learning', where real and live business issues provide the foundation of your study. Whilst some of these issues form part of the core teaching, many will be drawn from your experiences in Human Resources and those of your fellow colleagues.

This means you'll work collaboratively with well-known organisations, fellow professionals and teaching staff to tackle real-world, authentic problems at every stage. Applying yourself to practical problems will help you develop the skills that you need more quickly and more robustly than conventional classroom learning.

Teaching and assessment

Teaching

We know that everyone learns differently. So not only do we use traditional ways of teaching like lectures, we also use problem-based learning to help you apply your skills.

For this course, you'll:

  • Work with others on group work
  • Delve deeper into subject areas in workshops
  • Be expected to study independently

Our teaching is supported through our Virtual Learning Environment called Blackboard. This means you can access a range of materials to support your lectures wherever you are.

Assessment

There are two types of assessments: practice (also called formative) or formal (also called summative).

Practice assessments do not count towards your final mark. These are your chance to test your understanding – and learn how to improve for the real thing.

You’ll have formal assessments at the end of each module. These could include essays or portfolios.

Learning support

Your course tutors will provide lots of support. But you can also take advantage of our Academic Skills team, who can help you with:

  • Study skills (including reading, note-taking and presentation skills)
  • Written English (including punctuation, grammar)
  • Academic writing (including how to reference)
  • Research skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Revision, assessment and exam skills (including time management)

Feedback

We know that it’s important for you to be able to gauge your progress. So, your tutor will give you feedback on any practice assessments you do.

We usually give you feedback on formal assessments within 20 working days, but the format will vary for each module.

For the course starting on 20 September 2021 the tuition fees are:

Part time £2,685 per year of study

The expected study pattern on this programme enables you to complete modules totaling 60 credits in your first year of study and the other 120 credits, split equally over your second and third year of study. If you follow this pattern of study you will pay the same fee for each year of study. You will be invoiced for the modules that you register for each year, so if your study pattern is different from the expected pattern, you will pay more or less each year accordingly.
