This focus of this module is to provide the underpinning knowledge of educational theory and how this might be applied to developing health or social care students/trainees in your workplace. You will be encouraged to critically appraise your own, and others, learning and teaching styles and reflect upon the subsequent application within the health or social care setting.

This module is one of 4 modules you can study to obtain the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education which, upon completion, would enable you to apply for accreditation with the Higher Education Academy as Associate Fellow.

Graduate destinations

Students undertaking this module would normally be employed within the health or social care sector and successful completion of this module / award would be for personal and professional Continuing Professional Development.

A professional health or social care qualification / IELTS score 7

Employment opportunities

This module is for any Health or Social Care Practitioner who has educational responsibilities within the workplace and completion of this module would be for personal and professional Continuing Professional Development.

Module outline

This module acts as an introduction to the theories around teaching and learning, including learning styles, motivation of learners, the educational cycle and the principles of adult learning.

This module is one of 4 modules you can study to obtain the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education which, upon completion, would enable you to apply for accreditation with the Higher Education Academy as Associate Fellow.

Students who complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education can progress to complete the MSc Medical Education or the MSc in Negotiated Learning- Health and Social Care
