Overview

Equip yourself with the skills you need to carry out assessment and support of registered social workers undertaking post graduate awards from newly qualified professionals to experienced social workers.

Join the experts at Staffordshire University and explore the contemporary framework for social work education and qualification and the facilitation of assessment and support within professional social work practice.

During this module, you’ll also discover how to support and assess professionals in developing reflective practice, and the personal qualities and skills needed to be effective in the role of supporting professional development. This will include considering the conditions that will ensure effectiveness, and developing effective communication, both verbal and non-verbal, and giving effective feedback.

You will also consider the distinctions between line management, coaching, mentoring, counselling and advice giving, and a range of models and tools for assisting people in their professional development, as well as identifying and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries through contracting and the consideration of ethical issues, learning styles and preferences,

Finally, you’ll study the assessment of work-based learning to include identifying and analysing the role in relation to assessment, objectivity and evidence-based assessment.

Delivery method

Scheduled Learning and Teaching Activities include a module introduction, workshops and recall days. Guided Independent Study includes reading and literature review, reflective practice and assignment preparation and writing.

Entry requirements

Candidates should be qualified and registered (HCPC) social workers and will normally have completed a Practice Educator award to stage 2 and/or have experience of supervisory or middle management roles.
